Coming Down the Mountain (and other three poems)

Coming down the mountain, in the streets,

I see many adjectives

Floating about like catkins

In the air but never stay on the ground.

I cannot help but sneezing,

And the pedestrians hurry away as if I were struck by a plague.

In fact, they are safe and sound, and full of spirit,

Walking to the hospital with bouquets in hand.

In the sunlight of March,

A lot of adjectives are floating in the air.

And I see a coquettish young woman,

Walking into the cosmetic hospital with a poodle in hand.

I see the plane trees on both sides of the street

Growing pale roses, pale as white paper, so scary.

I say, I see a lot of adjectives.

Yes, lots of adjectives.

Hardly when I finish my words,

I am whacked in the back of the head,

And I faint in the street, unconscious.

You’re a Hypocrite

On the little grave mound,

Is planted A little headstone

With only a name on it.

I know her, a 19-year-old girl

Who jumped into the river dead somehow.

I have intended to touch her, to feel the little headstone,

To feel her name on the hard tablet,

But failed. With a hearty burst of laughter,

She says, “You are a hypocrite!”

I tell her to hold the laughter down.

The sun is shining and will soon dry up the laughter.

She still keeps on laughing

And the hearty laughter tinkles away

Until the azaleas are blooming all over the mountain.

I find on her grave

Not a piece of paper money,

Nor incense, but green weeds.

I light up two cigarettes,

And plant in her grave.

Saying her name,

I bow to her three times in all sincerity.

Working in an Aquarium

How do I get into the aquarium?

I turn my head a bit to the left, right?

Or a bit to the right? I'm not sure.

I need you to push me from behind. Push, push, push,

As you push someone into an old well.

I am in.

Actually, I'm sober,

And different in the aquarium.

Watery water, whose eyes?

I figure it out, but I won't tell you.

I only whisper to the goldfish.

Look -- how clean I've made the glass bowl!

You have no idea how much I love to work,

The water becomes more and more transparent, the grass green and graceful.

Whose tear has dropped?

Into undulating waves,

I'll ride the red goldfish out to sea.

An Outing in Spring

It’s cold in the mountain.

Spring arrives late,

Waiting for the east wind to thaw.

The peach blossoms are still in bud.

A young woman walks into the mountain and takes off her down jacket for an outing.

The ice begins to melt,

The sky becomes clear gradually,

And the wisps of sunlight are very, very soft.

The young woman's legs are strong and long.

She creeps on the stream with her bare feet,

The stream runs merrily,

And fishes jump out of the water, splashing.

The young woman moves halfway up the hill.

She takes a light breath,

And the frozen flowers and plants,

Come back to life in pale pink or tender green.

She does a little dance,

And her scent spins into a warm air,

A smell of spring.

I am pleasantly surprised to see

Two cuckoos fly away from her full breast,

Singing all the way into the warm, wet fields.
